Dr. Irving Henry Kaufman opened Be Well Family Practice in July of 1987 after completing his residency at JFK Hospital in Edison, New Jersey. The practice was named Irving Kaufman MD PC at the time. Dr. Kaufman is a 1983 Magna Cum Laude graduate of the University of Pisa Medical School in Italy. He started practice with five patients who followed him from the JFK Family Practice Center. In order to make ends meet until his practice grew, Dr. Kaufman worked as an employee doctor at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, did insurance physicals and was busy carrying the word about his new practice. His physical therapist wife and office manager, Reva Levine Kaufman, was always at his side building the practice as well. They are a team.
As the practice grew, Dr. Kaufman and Reva decided to hire a part time nurse practitioner. That innovative move turned out to be very successful. The practice now boasts several wonderful physician assistants who are respected and valued by our patients. They provide coverage so that every patient in our practice can be seen the same day. The next step in building Be Well Family Practice was getting an additional physician to come aboard. That provided Dr. Kaufman the space to be able to spend time with his growing family. The Kaufman's have four children that have grown-up in the practice. Each one has had a hand at some area of the practice from clean up to closing. Many patients remember the children in a play pen in the receptionist area years ago. It truly is a family practice. Even today it is not unusual to see one of the employees’ children coloring or chilling in the back room when there is a snow day.
Those were the old days and now the practice is up to date with electronic medical records, automated appointment reminder calls, a disease registry and this web site with upcoming links for patient education. We hope to offer our patients the ability to make their appointment on-line soon. At Be Well Family Practice we are ready for the challenge into the technological century while still valuing and maintaining that personal touch that is so important in the healing arts. We are partners in your family's health, just like we always were, but now we can take even better care of you!
